Hello together,
I have a question about connecting different audio protocols to the same network. Is it possible to connect Dante devices to a AVB/Milan network? I know, that you can't send Audio from a Dante device to a AVB-Listener. But can you have both protocols on the same switch without a V-LAN?
Thanks for a answer.
Best regards Michael

Hi Michael
It is perfectly possible to connect both Dante and AVB in the same network in consideration the switch is AVB compliant (better AVNU certified).
To elaborate: AVB will automatically reserve a VLAN (id 2) to transport its data. Other data can live in the native VLAN on the switch (so no other VLAN mandatory). AVB credit based shaping allows that other data can seamlessly run with AVB data from one switch to an other switch, as it allows other data in between AVB data packets.
Extra: Additionally you may be able to separate the Dante traffic on a separate VLAN. This depends on the switch (managed) you use. You may also be able to set QoS settings and IGMP.
FYI: Luminex GigaCore switches have all QoS and IGMP in combination with AVB set for you. And you can easily put different protocols in a different group (VLAN)
I hope this answers your question. If any further info is needed, don't hesitate to reach out.
Kind regards
