What is the difference between AM824 and AAF? How many channels are possible with AM824 and with AAF on a 1Gbit Network?

Hello dtholema, AM824 and AAF are both audio formats that can be carried by IEEE 1722 packets. The major difference between the two comes down to how the audio samples are packed. AM824 uses a variable size packet that can carry 11, 12 or 13 samples(samples@ 96kHz) while AAF uses a fixed 12 sample packet. There are some other differences in time-stamping and data encapsulation but I will omit those for the sake of brevity. The important thing to know is that AM824 streams are not compatible with AAF. AM824( 1GigE, 75%BW Alloc, Format AM824 non blocking, 48kHz, 32Bit, 8Channel): 312 Channels per link. AAF( 1GigE, 75%BW Alloc, Format AAF, 48kHz, 32Bit, 8Channel): 360 Channels per link. Here is a link to a great document centering around stream size -> grouper.ieee.org/groups/1722/contributions/2015/Choosing%20AVB%20Stream%20Sizes.pdfHere is a link to a great bandwidth calculator -> abc.statusbar.com-Cole
